Bentley Turbo R Introduction

Bentley Motors Limited produced a superior example called Bentley Turbo R model. It obtained the turbocharged locomotive from the Mulsanne Turbo and shares the chassis of Mulsanne car. For the improved torque the engine was modified with the new Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection.

Although Rolls Royce not provided regular figures, Motor Trend calculated the power output at 297 hp (221 kW) with 487 ft·lbf (660 N·m) of torque. It was priced at US $145,000, the Turbo R slotted above the Rolls Royce Silver Sprit and Bentley Mulsanne S .

In 1989, in the review of the car at introduction of Turbo R to the United State, The Motor Trend named the Turbo R "the best Bentley in decades worth of the known figure".

In 1995, the new Turbo R mode was introduced. Few changes are done in the new version includes, a 4 speed automatic transmission system and Zytec fuel injection system.

There are total number of 5,864 original Turbo R were produced out of them 4,653 were built on short wheelbase and 1,211 were built on long wheelbase. 1,366 new versions Turbo R were produced out of them 543 were built on short wheelbase and 823 were built on long wheelbase.
